EASTON, Pa. – Easton City Council on Wednesday night at city hall approved a certificate of appropriateness for exterior building construction materials for a proposed apartment building at 34-42 S. Sixth St.

The project, called Dutchtown Pointe, received Easton Historic District Commission approval for the COA at its Sept. 12 meeting.

The building materials include veneer stone and brick, fiber cement panels and trim in five colors, decorative aluminum, glass railings, double-hung windows and wood composite planks in dark mahogany for side terraces.

Previous plans, offered by developer ANR VII LLC with architect Jeff Martinson, said the five-story building will contain 34 apartments and commercial space. The plan has a lengthy history, and spurred opposition from some neighboring residents during the city's approval process.

After Easton City Council approved a COA for the project in July, several residents cited the project's size and scope in their disapproval. Mayor Sal Panto said he understood their frustrations, but ultimately, the decision to approve the project had to be based on the law, and the plan did meet the requirements of the historic district ordinance.
