There is no Thanksgiving strolling through the main part of the famous Wildwood Boardwalk in New Jersey. This is because the planks were demolished at the beginning of the major renovation project-just in time for the summer of 2022.

As reported by 6ABC in Philadelphia, the boardwalk between Maple Avenue and Wildwood Avenue will undergo major repairs. 6ABC wrote that there, the planks were pulled out and the concrete gravel on the foundation was broken into sand.

But the boardwalk should resume next summer, and it’s better than ever, officials said:

"In 2019, it was found that some concrete had very bad shapes. We felt that it was certainly worth repairing for safety reasons. It needs it. There is no doubt," Wildwood Commissioner and Deputy Mayor Christa Fitz Simon Si told 6ABC.

Officials said that it is expected that the cement track of the tram boardwalk will be replaced by wood, but the iconic transportation service will continue to operate after the project is completed.

The project is part of a five-year construction project for the boardwalk, which was originally estimated to cost approximately US$400 to 60 million. According to 6ABC reports, since then, engineers have re-examined and found areas where costs can be cut.

Recently, the New Jersey State budget provided $4 million for the project, and city leaders intend to rely on various other sources of funding to avoid substantial tax increases.

Fitzsimons told 6ABC: "We suspect that this is now at least a five-year project." "This is only the part that started a few weeks ago, and it will be completed before the start of the 2022 season."

The missing planks and rubble herald good things to come. Wildwood is repairing part of its boardwalk, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022. https://t.co/Wq4EEwrsrp
