Hiroshima-Izumi Co., a large supermarket operator headquartered in the eastern part of the western city of Japan, announced on December 28 that its four bath mat products using diatomaceous earth (a super absorbent mineral material) contain asbestos exceeding the legal limit .

Izumi has stopped selling these products and is recalling them. Since August, it has sold approximately 1,200 items in its Youme Town stores, which have 65 stores in western Japan. These bath mats are imported from China through Fuji Boeki Co., a trading company located in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan. Supermarket operators will provide refunds for returned products.

For more inquiries, please call Izumi’s customer service hotline 0120-664-687 (Japanese) between 10 am and 6 pm
