State Representative Jamie Callender, R-Concord Township, announced this week that the Ohio Controlling Board released more than $1.1 million to Lake County businesses.

Funding of $994,000 was awarded to Platform Cement, a Mentor business, for the construction of a new storm water system at the Ohio National Guard Camp Garfield facility in Portage County, according to a news release.

The project is federally funded through the Renovation and Improvements Fund.

Meanwhile Training Services International, an Eastlake business, was awarded more than $176,000 to partner with the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections for asbestos abatement, construction safety and mold handling training, the release stated.

The training will be offered to incarcerated adult workers around the state to provide them with a technical trade skill.

“It is exciting to see Lake County businesses qualify for these funds,” Callender stated in the release. “It goes to show that Lake County is a great place to work, live, raise a family, and run a business from. It is exciting to represent such a robust business community as the one in Lake County, Ohio.”

The Ohio Controlling Board is the financial legislative oversight for capital and operating expenditures by state agencies. The next controlling board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 19.
